Adani International Ports Holdings Pte Limited (AIPH), a subsidiary of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ), has secured a significant 30-year concession to operate and manage Container Terminal 2 (CT2) at Dar es Salaam Port in Tanzania. The agreement, signed with the Tanzania Ports Authority, marks a major expansion for Adani Ports in East Africa.
Expansion in East Africa
Dar es Salaam Port, a crucial hub in Tanzania, handled 0.82 million TEUs of containers in 2023, which accounts for 83% of the country’s total container volume. The addition of CT2, featuring four berths and an annual handling capacity of 1 million TEUs, is set to boost the port’s operational efficiency and capacity.
Joint Venture and Partnership
CT2 will be operated under East Africa Gateway Limited, a joint venture involving AIPH, AD Ports Group, and East Harbour Terminals Limited (EHTL). This collaboration is expected to enhance trade volumes and economic cooperation between India and East Africa.
Karan Adani, Managing Director of APSEZ, stated, “The partnership has the potential to enhance trade volumes and economic cooperation between India and East Africa. The concession for Container Terminal 2 aligns with APSEZ’s goal to become a leading global port operator by 2030.”
